OK, your first Windows 2003 server is built, and your DNS and Active directory roles/services have been configured on that Windows 2003 server. Let’s add another server that is in a workgroup on our network to our domain, and make the server a member server.

First you need to log onto your Workgroup server as a local administrator.

Then go Start, Control Panel, and run the System.

You should see a Windows 2003 window with a title System Properties. Click on the Computer Name tab, and then click on C hange.

When you click on C hange, you will see another Window’s 2003 window with a title Computer Name Changes. Here you can rename your server. Before you add this Windows 2003 Server to the domain as a member server. Make sure the Computer name of your Windows 2003 server is what you want to name it.

If the Computer name is correct, click on the Domain option and type in your domain name that you want to add this Windows 2003 to. In our lab the domain is called OFFICE When your done click OK .

  • You will be prompted for a logon, type in your {domain name}\{domain admin logon} and password.
  • You will then be prompted to reboot your server for the changes to take effect. Reboot your server…

Your Windows 2003 Server is now a member server part of your Active Directory 2003 domain.
