Microsoft Vista SP 1 , (service pack), adds many fixes and enhances to Microsoft Vista.

One of the more common complaints of the Microsoft Vista operating system; slow in extracting, or copying files from a Zipped, compressed file, and the other being slow in copying or moving files of a directory that has many files are two of many fixes in Microsoft Vista service pack 1, (sp1).

These two fixes compliment each other. As seen when you have a zipped file, which does not have to be very large, but has many files. It could take as long as an half an hour to extract files from a 1mb zipped file that had aproximitly 300 files. ( I experienced this first hand).

However, after I applied Microsoft vista Service pack 1, I extracted 299 files in a 1.73mb zipped file in about 10 minutes. So the service pack does help, reduced the amount of time to extract files from a zipped file by as much as 50%.
